Biography

Dr. Hala Mahmoud Abdellatif is a Medical Oncologist at the Burjeel Cancer Institute – Burjeel Medical City. Dr. Hala is one of the region’s distinguished experts in medical oncology, with an extensive academic and clinical career spanning more than 30 years in the UAE and Egypt. Dr. Hala graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alexandria, Egypt, in 1994 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.Ch) with “Very Good with Honors” distinction. In 1995, she completed her specialty qualification in Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy, followed by a Master’s degree in Oncology, Radiotherapy, and Nuclear Medicine. She later obtained her PhD in Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy in July 2011 from the University of Alexandria. She has also achieved significant professional milestones, including earning the FRCR in Clinical Oncology from the Royal College of Radiologists in London (Part I in March 2009 and Part II in March 2011), as well as receiving the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) certification in 2012, with recertifications in 2017 and 2022. Dr. Hala additionally holds multiple advanced professional licenses, including a DOH Abu Dhabi license as a Specialist in Clinical Oncology with Medical Oncology privileges, a UAE MOH license as an Oncology and Radiotherapy Specialist, and an Egyptian MOH license as an Oncology and Radiotherapy Consultant.

Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Hala progressed to her current role as Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy at the University of Alexandria. She previously held several academic positions within the same department, in addition to her clinical work in the Breast Cancer Unit and her involvement in rural cancer awareness initiatives. Since 2001, Dr. Hala has built a distinguished career in the UAE, beginning at Mafraq Hospital in the Oncology and Radiotherapy Department. In 2008, she joined Mediclinic Al Noor Hospital, where she served as Head of the Oncology Department. She brings extensive experience in diagnosing and treating all types of solid tumors, with particular expertise in breast cancer, lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, and genitourinary cancers. She also contributes actively to annual early detection campaigns for breast and colorectal cancer across Abu Dhabi. Dr. Hala has participated in numerous research projects and has published scientific papers in reputable international and regional journals, including abstracts presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meetings. She regularly attends major global oncology conferences such as ESMO, ASCO, the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, and various European and American specialty congresses. She has also served as a speaker at multiple scientific events. Dr. Hala has completed extensive advanced training programs at leading international institutions, including MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, Gustave Roussy in Paris, the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, University College London (UCL) in the UK, and the University of Lübeck in Germany, along with numerous specialized professional development courses. She is also recognized for her strong teaching, training, and mentorship skills in guiding junior doctors and oncology trainees.
