Biography
Dr. Omar Alfalasi is a highly accomplished Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates, in 2006. During his medical training, he completed several international clinical electives, including an elective at a university hospital in London, Ontario, Canada, which further strengthened his interest in advanced cardiovascular care. Following graduation, Dr. Alfalasi completed his internship at Tawam University Hospital in Al Ain, UAE, an institution affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine. He subsequently undertook six months of additional training in the hospital’s Cardiology Department, where he developed a strong foundation in cardiovascular medicine. Driven by a passion for electrophysiology, Dr. Alfalasi was accepted into the Cardiology Residency Program at the University of Montpellier 1, France. During his residency, he worked closely with the cardiac electrophysiology team and devoted his final year to intensive training in the electrophysiology laboratory. He successfully completed his cardiology residency in 2013. Dr. Alfalasi then pursued a two-year fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology, gaining extensive experience in cardiac pacing and catheter ablation techniques. To further advance his expertise, he completed a second fellowship at Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada, where he refined his skills in complex electrophysiology procedures and advanced device therapies. Upon returning to the UAE in 2017, Dr. Alfalasi had already amassed significant procedural experience, having performed more than 1,000 cardiac device implantation procedures and over 700 catheter ablations. He joined Sheikh Khalifa Medical City as a Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist and became an integral member of the cardiology team. In October 2019, he was appointed Chair of the Cardiac Institute, reflecting his leadership and commitment to advancing cardiac services. In November 2020, Dr. Alfalasi moved to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where he was appointed Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology. He played a pivotal role in the growth and development of advanced electrophysiology services within the institution. From July 2022 to May 2024, Dr. Alfalasi served as a Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Rashid Hospital, contributing significantly to the development and expansion of its electrophysiology program. In June 2024, he returned to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City as Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Vice Chair of Cardiology, positions he continues to hold today. Throughout his career, Dr. Alfalasi has been dedicated to providing cutting-edge care for patients with cardiac arrhythmias, combining extensive international training, procedural expertise, and healthcare leadership to advance the field of cardiac electrophysiology in the UAE.
